PrimeSpot test

The PrimeSpot test detects and quantifies specific viruses and Lyme disease-associated species in a DNA sample.

Scientists use an advanced molecular biology technique called quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR) to detect certain viruses and the presence of Lyme disease-associated species accurately from our world-leading facilities.

When used in combination with our PaldiSpot test, the PrimeSpot test provides critical information that can inform the development of personalised treatments and therapies for Lyme disease and chronic fatigue syndrome.

The PrimeSpot test is clinically validated and highly accurate. It is suitable for adults aged 18 and over. Results of the PrimeSpot test are processed and returned within 14 days.

Purpose of the test

The PrimeSpot test analyses genetic material from your patients’ blood and serum to screen for viruses, and the presence of Lyme disease-associated species.

During the PrimeSpot test, white cells are isolated from a patient’s blood sample, and serum is collected. DNA or RNA (retroviruses) are then separated and used as a template in both one-step and two-step RNA qPCR reactions.

The gene expression profile of inflammatory markers is performed in mRNA isolated from specific cell-population. The above cells have been selected and isolated using antibodies conjugated with magnetic beads or fluorescence-activated cell sorting.

We perform all tests three times and conduct positive and negative controls for every strain.

The final PrimeSpot test report provides information on whether a specific virus or strain is present in a patient’s cells or serum, and a quantification parameter (its Ct value, or threshold cycle).

Useful information

On ordering the PrimeSpot test, you will receive a sample collection kit in the mail.

In the box, you will find step-by-step instructions on the sample requirements (blood sample or swab) and details on how to return the sample to us. We have strict internal controls to ensure that we protect all samples throughout the process.

Results of the PrimeSpot test are processed and returned within 14 days.

Support and training

At Biocentaur, we provide ongoing training and support for clinicians on conducting tests and interpreting the results for patients. If you would like more information on the PrimeSpot test or any of the Biocentaur range of advanced genetic tests, please visit our FAQs page or contact us.
