What does the PaldiSpot test diagnose?

The PaldiSpot test analyses DNA extracted from your patients’ blood and serum to screen more than 20 of the most common strains of Lyme disease (Borrelia, Babesia and Bartonella genospecies).

What is the scientific basis for the PaldiSpot test?

PaldiSpot is based on qPCR, where the foreign DNA can be detected and quantified in parallel.

How are PaldiSpot samples analysed?

White cells isolated and serum is collected from blood sample. DNA is then isolated and used as template in qPCR reactions.

How is the PaldiSpot test performed, how are the results analysed and what do I receive?

During the PaldiSpot test, a patient’s DNA is isolated from blood cells and serum. DNA is used as template in qPCR reactions, using appropriate positive and negative controls. Internal controls are used to ensure that DNA was extracted from samples. The final report included information about the presence or not of each strain in cells and serum, as well as a quantification parameter (Ct, or threshold cycle).

How does the PaldiSpot test work?

The patient’s DNA is used in quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR) testing, where we screen the sample for the presence of Borrelia, Babesia or Bartonella DNA. qPCR is an advanced laboratory technique that monitors the amplification of a specific DNA molecule.

How accurate is the PaldiSpot test?

All reactions are performed in triplicate. In addition positive DNA controls for every strain, as well appropriate negative controls ensure accurate and reliable results.

What information do I receive from the PaldiSpot test?

The final PaldiSpot test report provides information on whether a specific strain is present in a patient’s cells or serum, and a quantification parameter (its Ct value, or threshold cycle).

What is the threshold cycle in the PaldiSpot test?

The threshold cycle, or Ct value, shows that a detectable amount of the DNA has been generated during the test. The PaldiSpot test can detect the presence of 23 strains of Borrelia, Babesia or Bartonella in a DNA sample.

How long will PaldiSpot test results take to process?

PaldiSpot test results are processed and returned within 14 days.

Can I order PaldiSpot without first ordering PrimeSpot?

Yes. If you only wish to identify the exact strain of Lyme disease present in the body, you can order a PaldiSpot test. If you order PrimeSpot and PaldiSpot tests together, you will receive a 20% discount.
